A Light Worker describes individuals who are believed to be on a path of spiritual awakening or enlightenment. Such people are thought to carry or radiate a special “light” or energy to help heal, guide, and uplift others. The concept is rooted in various spiritual and esoteric traditions, including New Age philosophy.

Light Worker characteristics

1. Light Workers are believed to have undergone a significant spiritual awakening and realize they are here on Earth for a higher purpose
2. They are thought to possess a deep sense of compassion and a desire to help others
3. Light Workers are believed to radiate positive energy and love
4. They often feel a strong sense of mission or calling to contribute to the spiritual evolution of humanity
5. Many Light Workers are described as highly empathetic and sensitive to the energy and emotions of others and possibly be attuned to the collective consciousness
6. Light Workers may see part of their mission as helping to awaken others to their own spiritual potential and to a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of all life.

My Journey 

I had never heard the term until a recent retreat. After various sessions, feedback from staff, and conversations, the term arose naturally. I was stunned that these practitioners in all things metaphysical were referring to me by the same term.

The concept of Light Workers is not universally accepted, and interpretations vary. Some people find the term and its associated ideas empowering and meaningful, while others may view it with scepticism.

I knew the forces that brought me to this place, at that time, with the people I met, meant there was no turning back. The universe was screaming for me to continue my search. A search for what a Light Worker actually is, how it related to me, and how to develop my skills. 

Since then certain aspects of my awareness, seemingly on the periphery, now held more meaning and weight to them. Further observations of the interconnectedness of all things and my place in the world became more apparent. 

I observed an overall shift in my sensory inputs in terms of how I was relating to the world and myself. It made more sense now. It was easier to just be.
This ‘term’, ‘Light Worker’, needed more investigation. And that’s when things started to click. 

A Light Worker is someone who awakens to the dichotomy of experience, and acknowledges conscious existence as a gift – realising there is a powerful unifying force to everything in the universe and all it holds. 

A Light Worker understands they’ve been blessed with a gift, and never gives up trying to evolve, and expand it. This is quite difficult in the current paradigm the world is in. A Light Worker can see the trajectory of humanity and feel compelled to act. Light Workers are sensitive, caring people trying to reconcile their humanity on Earth while continuing to evolve their gifts while helping others to raise them up.

A Light Worker’s mission

A Light Worker as a conduit for love, mercy and grace. I believe that is what we’ve been called for: to be a living reflection of the love from God we’ve been given as evidenced through our existence, and share those virtues with our fellow humans thereby raising the overall frequency of the world.

We’re all children of the light, and a lot of us are seekers of truth. We’re imbued with the capacity for greatness in this life. The irony is that all the mental work into defining something such as this metaphysical construct appeals to our ego mind that simply wants to understand. 

However, for something such as this, the mind stands in the way. It becomes an exercise in knowing, to satiate our mind’s need for tangible empirical data-based fact. But, in stillness, there is no mind. Our true nature can observe the min and all its trappings. For this, the mind can never understand. Why? Because we are human in our current form.

This that I speak of exists beyond the mind’s ability to understand. It simply is isness. A lot of times our minds are quick to finish the sentence of our thoughts, fill in the blanks, project to the future or live in the past – anything to take our awareness away from the here and now.

Our sneaky mind even knows it cannot understand such a grand concept. It realises this concept can lead to enlightenment, which it cannot understand either. So, naturally, the mind takes us on a journey away from the source, the stillness, the peace. The mind perpetually tries to keep our attention on anything related to our personhood in order to keep us down.

Moving forward

We have to unlearn what we’ve learned. That is, to make the conscious effort to pull at the thread of our psychological tapestry in order to realise the true nature of ourselves. It isn’t us, the person. It’s not our past or future. It is here, now. This moment. Basking in the isness of all, standing in wonderment that we are allowed to experience: the light.

Once we realise this we stand a better chance of being the observer of all things including our own minds, thoughts, and emotions. Our minds connect us to all the wonderful programming we were given since our birth, and we learn to play along, subscribing to the idea of personhood. 

Once we learn to forgo our ‘person’, we can observe the ‘being’. We can “zoom out” and observe everything and how our biological avatar and its constructs relate to the outside world. Here is the opportunity for transformation, because in this situation, one can take the time to just be. And in so doing, opens up so much space for spiritual growth and evolution.

How is this possible? The light. The energy. All of the energy flowing throughout the cosmos in everything that ever existed is energy.

Of all the elements in the universe, carbon is ranked fourth. Carbon is a sub product of hydrogen and helium burning inside stars, just like nitrogen. Carbon is a major player in the evolutionary scheme of the universe because of its abundance and its ability to form complex species – us.

Therefore, it would be safe to say that on a biological level as carbon-based life forms, there is no separation. There is really no difference between you and I, except the difference of our experiences through consciousness.

Take a sunset for example. Two people can look at the same sun and define it differently. They can observe the same beauty in nature standing shoulder to shoulder, but the experience of observing is truly unique to each participant. 

A Light Worker understands their position in the universe as a subjective construct in the observance of all things, and knows the cosmic gift is in all of us. It is from here, the Light Worker seeks how to evolve and strengthen their gift to share it with the world.
